What is a baby sheep?

A baby sheep is called a lamb, and it is the young of a sheep. A lamb is born after a gestation period of around 148 days and weighs about 6-10 pounds at birth. A newborn lamb can stand within just a few minutes of being born and can nurse from its mother within an hour. Lambs will stay with their mother and nurse for up to six months or until they are weaned. They grow quickly and can double their weight in just a few weeks. At around six months old, they are considered fully grown and are referred to as hoggets.
